The last end sprint towards the departing date 11th of July has been set in. This half year journey is the ideal step between the student life and the working part. However no journey can begin without the necessary pre-departure activities. The search for sponsors, travel documents, luggage counting (max. 20 kg for 6 months), first contacts with other UWP'ers and even an audition tape.
Sponsor search journey
Up with People is an unbelieveable world trip, but the down-side is the large cost price and therefore several channels needed to be addressed. A big thank you goes out to all contributors at the Lift you Up party, a great sum was gathered which gave the sponsor pursuit a big push. Rotary Hasselt was also willing to listen to my Up with People project. At first they were only considering to support interesting projects along the way but apparently the presentation pursuaded them to also sponsor my involvement in the project. A few weeks ago I also got a confirmation of an Up with People sponsor scholarship. So now with the help of my parents and the great sponsors I'm financially ready to leave!
Getting in order
A 17-page document going from health insurance to medical approvement needed to be filled in. Especially getting a Visum at the American embessy is a stressful, but interesting day activity. Other predeparture activities include weighing my stuff for 20 kg, I'm quickly gathering a collection of weight-reducing tips from everyone (great help, thanks!). And another fun predeparture experience is the first contact with other participants, definitely check out the other blogs (see links on your right). A final fun and interesting aspect was creating an audition tape which was very confronting (thanks Piwi and Eva for the help!).
